Imphal, Manipur, April 6 (HBTV): An employee of the State Bank of India in Manipur who allegedly stole approximately two crore in cash and gold ornaments worth INR 50 lakh has been nabbed in New Delhi. 

41-year-old Monarch Laishram Grace, said to be a cashier in the State Bank of India’s Bishnupur branch, reportedly went missing on April 2, and believed to have stolen the money and gold ornaments.   

Grace is said to be from Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai (colony) in the Nambol area.

The branch’s manager reported the matter to the Nambol Police station that on April 2, Monarch Laishram, a senior assistant, went missing without any prior information. Eventually, it was found that two crore rupees in cash along with gold ornaments worth 50 lakh were missing.   

According to the complaint, Laishram Grace possessed the key to the bank’s locker room. The staffers discovered the missing valuables after opening the locker room, reports said. In the follow up to the branch manager’s complaint, the police started working on tracing Grace’s whereabouts.

The police traced him to a location in the national capital on Friday.     

In a statement, the Manipur Police said the absconding Bishnupur SBI employee was arrested from Patel Chest Christian Colony opposite Maurice Nagar Police Station in North Delhi on Friday at about 5:30 pm. He was arrested by Delhi Police Crime Branch.
